Girls Trip!!!
There’s nothing like a girls’ trip to reset and recharge , and my recent weekend getaway to Bellows Falls, Vermont, to visit my childhood friend Sarah was just that! This charming little town had everything we needed for a fun, relaxing time together—great food, cutesy shops, and cozy coffee spots. Plus, it’s so so pretty!
Vermont has always been a state I wanted to explore: The vibrant autumn foliage, rolling hills, and mountains covered in red, orange, and gold leaves - The delicious cheddar cheese, maple syrup, craft beers, and cider - The charming towns with cozy cafes and local shops.
There are many reasons to visit, and our visit to see Sarah was long overdue!
Sarah lives in the most charming little town of Bellows Falls. The city is surrounded by rolling hills and the Connecticut River, making it feel like a picture from a postcard. Everywhere we looked, there were gorgeous views. Once me and Patrice finally arrived to town, I was so excited to walk around and explore.
Wunderbar
We arrived around 4 p.m., and after we settled in, we had dinner at the delicious Wunderbar. The food was incredible! It’s one of those tapas-style places where you order several small plates and share. Every dish was so different, fresh, and delicious! The food was so yummy, I went ahead and wrote out my personal ratings below.
The restaurant's had a laid-back atmosphere, with mood lighting, lots of hanging plants, and cool vibes. We felt as if we could sit and chat for hours (which we did!)
Below are some of the savory dishes we ordered, pictures, and ratings:
1.) Kale Caesar Salad- Baby kale covered in vegan Caesar dressing and topped with pickled red onions, crispy spiced chickpeas, and radish. This salad was so delicious and fresh! 10/10
2.) Mexican Street Corn- local sweet corn riblets, cotija, cilantro crema, lime, & tajine. We loved these! 9/10
3.) Fish Tacos- Pan-fried haddock topped with red cabbage slaw and a cilantro crema and served in housemade corn tortillas. These fish tacos were also very delicious! 9/10
4.) Ahí Tuna- Crispy corn tortilla topped with chipotle mayo, raw ahi tuna, cucumber, honey, sesame oil, and sprouts. This might have been my favorite- the crunch from the tortilla and all of the flavors were on point. 10/10
5.) Ribs- Half rack of local baby back ribs smothered in a sweet and sour sauce with mirin and ginger. The meat fell off the bone - melt-in-your-mouth perfection! 10/10
6.) Bao Buns- Pillowy soft bao stuffed with crispy pickled tofu, kimchi, green cabbage, and sriracha mayo. These were delicious! 10/10
7.) Tostones- Local shredded flank steak with red peppers, olives, garlic, and tomato. Served on tostones with cotija cheese. So good. 8/10
The portions for these plates were the perfect size. Between the 3 of us, we were shocked as how full we were at the end. Normally for tapas, the dishes are smaller and not as filling. This place did not disappoint!
Overall, every dish was perfection, so this is definitely a spot that you do not want to miss! Remember to make a reservation for guaranteed seating!
After dinner, we walked around a bit. The town is so beautiful with all of the trees dressed in lights and small town cozy vibes. We ended the night with a bottle of wine and looking through our childhood’s yearbooks.
The next morning, we woke up early and met up with friends at the local coffee shop.
Flat Iron
Flat Iron Cooperative Coffee Shop was just the cutest coffee spot! The minute we walked in, we were hit with the smell of fresh coffee (so good!) and found a cozy table to sit at. Their coffee was delicious, and they had a great selection of snacks to go with it. If you love coffee and cozy vibes, this place is a must.
After coffee, we originally planned to go for a hike to check out the views. Due to the weather, we decided to do some of the touristy things.
Allen Bros
Touristy spot #1 is Allen Bros for their famous Dreamee. It totally lived up to the hype! It is served in between a fresh maple sugar cinnamon donut. The soft-serve was super creamy and just the right amount of maple. It was amazing.
Definitely something I’ll be craving next time I’m in town!
Vermont Country Store
Touristy spot #2 is The Vermont Country Store. I'm such a sucker for a good old country store. They had handmade candles and lotions, savory and sweet treats, local cheeses, and meats. I always have to walk down every aisle to smell, touch, and try everything. We ended up spending way longer than planned just looking at everything. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re finding little treasures, and you can’t help but leave with a few things.
I couldn’t help myself and I ended up buying the local cheese, honey, and handmade body lotion!
Ciao Popolo
For dinner, we ended up enjoying some yummy pasta and wine at Ciao Popolo! Food and service was great!
Final Thoughts
This girls’ trip to Bellows Falls was everything I needed—a mix of great food, beautiful scenery, and quality time with the girls. We did have rainy weather this weekend, but it still didn’t take away from all the beauty or fun. We are already planning our next trip to go hiking and kayaking the beautiful river! Bellows Falls is the perfect spot for a laid-back weekend, whether you’re looking to shop, eat, or just relax. If you’re ever in Vermont and want to experience a town with heart and charm, definitely check out Bellows Falls. I can’t wait for our next girls trip back!
